The Fairway History
We adopted the FAIRWAY branding in 2010, but our history in the financial planning industry began in January 1990. Our Principal, Neil Macdonald, followed his parent’s footsteps into the Industry (they met at National Mutual in 1966). “I guess you could say, Insurance was in my blood” Neil says reflecting on how he became the specialist Risk Insurance Adviser he is today.
Fairway Financial was one of the foundation firms of Fortnum Financial Advisers, who are always looking for better client outcomes and improved office efficiencies.
Bringing You Up To Date
“Like most things, ultimately it comes down to working with the right people – people you can trust, people who have vision and people who are willing to share ideas and help each other to succeed” says Glenn Dibley.
Originally specialising in Risk Insurance, Fairway has now grown into a full service financial planning practice. “As a business we want to make it easy for our clients with all aspects of financial advice available in the one place. With each Adviser having specialised skills, knowledge and experience, we are able to offer our clients the best of both worlds.”
For Neil and Glenn “the right thing to do” underlines all relationships with their clients, professional business relationships and the team as a whole. They know that “the right thing to do” will be different for each individual client. As for the Fairway name, Neil concedes “I do enjoy a game of golf, but the name is more a reflection of the ‘fair-way’ we treat all clients”. This has been, and will continue to be, the most important part of the business.

Meet Neil Macdonald
With a degree in Economics from the University of Queensland, at age 20 I followed my father’s footsteps and joined the Insurance Industry in 1990 at National Mutual. As part of a Graduate Program, my experience was fast-tracked with exposure to many different aspects of the business and after 5 years I was head-hunted by a group of Advisers as their Practice Manager. Within 12 months of joining, I saw the potential to help people with my Insurance and Industry experience, and set off to start my own business.
I specialise in what I refer to as ‘people’ insurance, rather than ‘things’ insurance. Helping business owners and professionals with their people insurance needs. I have enjoyed a special interest in the Veterinary Industry for over 20 years, after implementing an Insurance Rewards Program for Vetmark in Queensland in 1998. Clients have referred to me as “the go-to guy for Vets” and I have helped achieve many successful claim outcomes for my clients over the years.

Too many business owners don’t review their Insurance, they just pay it and hope. Hope is not a powerful strategy. I can tell you from 30 years experience, that claim-time is not the time find out that it’s not quite right. I know what right should look like.

Meet Glenn Dibley
Creating possibilities, providing solid advice and surety that your financial future is taken care of is how I help my clients. I work with people who need support around how to make their financial future as comfortable as possible.
My wife Amanda and I have two young boys who keep us on our toes. I love travelling having lived in London and backpacked across Europe in my younger days. Being ‘from the bush’ I have a great affinity with the land and spending time in the garden, as well as playing tennis, golf and studying the sharemarket.
Taking time to really get to know people enables me to tailor every strategy and plan for each specific client. Right from the first meeting, my approach is to get to the heart of what is truly needed. I have a genuine desire to help people succeed financially.
I strongly believe financial planning isn’t about money. That might sound contradictory, but really, planning is about people – their dreams, their concerns, their future. Money is merely the means to get you there and should not be the sole focus when planning your life.
My view is that financial planning cannot have a one-size-fits-all approach. Each client has different dreams and with nearly a decade of experience in the industry, I not only understand the theory of planning but also has the practical know-how of what actually works.
For me as the custodian of people’s money the first and foremost important step is managing the RISK of investing and navigating volatility ‘ups and downs.’ No-one should have to feel the stresses of not having enough money in /or for retirement.
